Portland Is Leaving come along with me now cause there are
things I’ve been dying to tell you
the best of the worst things
that you never needed to know
this is the kind of comedy
where no one’s laughing, cause it’s hard to
 I’m a punch line who’s punch-drunk
with my fist in a broken mirror

 there’s a party nearby, I can hear
laughter in the distance and it all comes clear
sounds too simple, love is the only answer
everything else is just a train wreck

I’m gonna stay up all night
every night for the rest of my life
till the lines around my eyes
grow deeper and more defined
you might ask me aren’t you dead inside
and so damn tired
I’ll say I have no idea I’m not
sleeping until after the dying is over

, I can hear laughter in the distance and it all comes clear
sounds too simple, love is the only answer
when loves a train wreck, you're a mistake

White Daisy Passing Please slow it down There’s a secret magic past world That you only notice when you’re looking back at it And all I wanna do is turn around I'm going down to sleep on the bottom of the ocean Cause I couldn’t let go when the water hit the setting sun Passing white daisies, taking turns Close the door walk into the street catching raindrops on your tongue And for a minute it all stops But it won’t last man, just a passing moment gone Please slow it down There’s a secret place that I know Where I could a dig a grave out and climb Underground for good - All I wanna do is turn around I'm going down to sleep on the bottom of the ocean Cause I couldn’t let go when the water hit the setting sun Passing white daisies, taking turns All those evenings on the back deck of our 1st apartment They meant everything but the wind just carried them off And you can’t go back now, just a passing moment gone...

Goldfield Car 5032 of the union pacific Is passing by on the right to Bring back all the hopelessness Of a trailer park in the old Mining town Where the irony's laying thick on the ground In the dirty streets of Goldfield If you're searching for silver Or an easier fortune Finding nothing in the way of love or a Life of living any better than before You'll know you've arrived In Goldfield Car 5032 of the union pacific Is passing by on The right and she's thinking of escaping out to Frisco From the trailer park in the old mining town Where the irony's laying Thick on the ground In the dirty streets of Goldfield Laying roots down to soak up the poison for generations Finding nothing in the way of love or a life of living any better than before You'll Know you've arrived in Goldfield Gotta get the hell out of Goldfield I'm gone this time I'm really leaving

Alabaster on the outside looking in i've never been able to crack the code to break the secret spell that would open up the door and let me in to everything I've been looking for so hard I've never seen but I feel my strength returning tonight its pouring from the purest well to ever give water out into an ocean where the sharks are circling carnival of counterfeits has no room for something real arrogance and ego wrapped around every word shouted from the pulpit as a judgment to control these are my roots my seed was thrown in shallow soil I grew into the thorn bushes to be scorched by the sun but I feel the gravel move beneath my feet the smell of the gasoline mixed in with the trees when my faith is strong I know my strength the threats will be screamed when the vultures feel threatened so I'll open up the door and let you in I want to break the alabaster smell the sweet perfume when the bottle's broken I'll have nothing left to give I'll know I'll already have everything worth having but I feel my strength returning tonight it's pouring from the purest well to ever give water out into an ocean where the sharks are circling carnival of counterfeits want to crucify something real

The Finish Line My name is Inmate number 30268 and I've decided not to stay I doubt they'll kick up any fuss or roadblocks for an old crook like me I was in the path of the tornado I just didn't expect the spinning would last as long as it has you know so I keep repeating… i just keep repeating There's always hope And no good thing ever dies The River is carrying each one of us To the finish line One day we'll be on the other side These are not the chosen themes These are the themes that have chosen me And I'm writing for my life It's a terrible thing to be afraid all the time When you reach the point of a death wish Feeling that anything Has got to be better than this Then just keep repeating, just go on repeating There's always hope And no good thing ever dies The River is carrying each one of us To the finish line One day we'll be on the other side One day we'll be on the other side

Hospital Handshakes Is this an exercise, or an exorcism Firework pilots fly towards the explosion In the sky the bright colored lights Suffering the horizon of my mind I'm a patient with no patience Hospital Handshakes We must each be broken If we're ever to be made new again The current of this currency Is painting me golden You're a ghost in the sun A massacre on the winter A silent sea deafening defeat Drowning the minor 2nd Until there's no line between the truth and the lies we're all hiding behind If it's a choice what will we decide When we choose sides Between the darkness and the light We must each be broken If we're ever to be made new again The current of this currency is painting me golden She held my hands and walked me back from the ledge where I was standing My Father sent me to my Mother to be punished no longer I'm gonna heal up now from this trauma I'll close the window and shorten the shadows Gonna get better and better, Gonna heal up from this trauma Gonna get better and better, Gonna heal up from this trauma Gonna get better and better, Gonna better and better - Gonna get better We must each be broken If we're ever to be made new again The current of this currency Is painting me golden Painting me golden Painting me Painting me gold

MAKERS death keeps calling me, she’s gonna set me free no more sunshine sidewalk streets or misery like she did for you, Oh Allen how you suffered lower east-side apartment we stayed up late the bones inside your mind were all broken and the keys that opened any answers were all stolen filling and refilling up the glass with makers - we both agreed The Final Moment! the sweetest remedy to ever be delivered! heaven or heavenless we’re all headed for the same sweet darkness so she came for you, well I guess you wanted her to now in the safety of a coffin rest you’re through no more debts or memories, no more heart blood or skin on teeth final dosage to set you free - you escaped the bones inside your mind were all broken and the keys that opened any answers were all stolen filling and refilling up the glass with makers - we both agreed The Final Moment! the sweetest remedy to ever be delivered! heaven or heavenless we’re all headed for the same sweet darkness

SUICIDE MEDICINE A brain that never stops ticking, sometimes an on-off switch would sure come in handy A mind that's constantly cutting up and dissecting, looking for answers, committing murders along the way Is it the red wire, or the blue wire just pick one and cut, it just doesn't matter anymore or did it ever, cause I could never control when the bomb would explode Oh God I love you, I mean forever I left my body behind to break the news looks like it's over, please remember all of the things I never got a chance to say like you look smashing in your fourth grade picture, the one that we hung by the door, in our house that was so beautiful, yeah, here in our little home If this medication upsets your stomach, take it with crackers, bread, or a small meal We understand it won't do shit towards a cure But if you buy this, I promise you're gonna like the way it makes you feel nobody knows, what goes on in our little home

MONTANA driving north on 35 heading into the night
the suns getting easier for me to look at
I’ve been singing these songs about you Montana
for so long without ever even knowing it
and the things that you can’t see
if you look you’ll find
 they’ll deliver everything
somewhere somehow I got everything backwards from the gas tank to the engine
ambition sets the pistons on fire
and when you feel the distance in an empty bed
lord you’ll know that you’re the woman of
a hard working guitar pickin’ man you know my dream has always been
 a freight train leaving town
I grew up small town but I always knew I’d get out of that somehow
I’m barely breathing on this stage, but it’s keeping me alive
there’s nowhere I’d rather be than on my way home to you tonight driving north on 35 heading into the night
the suns getting easier for me to look at
maybe Memphis TN, maybe New Orleans
maybe Arizona, I guess we’ll see

SILVER TREES I hear you call me
 branches break in the wind
and through the leaves and concrete
you’re gonna grow into something that death can’t steal
a garden that gives sprouts come up glowing
fruits of jade and golden silver trees
to mark the legacy
of a life that finally learned what this means

the invisible choir sings you a voiceless lesson
so you’ll always remember what grew out of decisions
that death can’t steal - lives that learned to give
when it seemed there was nothing
oh, how much more it meant to those around we go,
there’s a rhythm soft and slow
you’ll always hear the choir if you listen close
